WNYers to gather and watch USA Hockey


BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Local bars are expecting big crowds during the USA/Canada hockey game Friday afternoon. On Wednesday, people filled Cole’s to support the red, white and blue against the Czech Republic. The USA beat the Czechs five to two, to win a berth in the semifinals against Canada.

If you’re looking for somewhere to watch the game, the Seneca Niagara Casino is showing it in style. It will play on a 40-by-20-foot HD screen at the new Stir Bar. That’s the largest indoor casino screen in North America.

It’s a semifinal full of story lines. Buffalo native Patrick Kane is going up against his Chicago Blackhawk teammate Duncan Keith.

Sitting on the bench for all of this, Sabres goalie and the American hero if 2010, Ryan Miller. Instead, Stanley Cup winner Jonathan Quick will start in the net for the United States. The puck drops at noon Friday.
