INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WIVB) – The national spotlight keeps increasing, for ex-Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, now that he’s taken over as the head coach for the Cleveland Browns.
“I joke that I went to Cleveland to get to a nicer climate. I’ve checked it every couple days, it’s been about a degree or two warmer in Cleveland,” said Pettine.
The most recent warm-up comes courtesy of a Pro Football Talk report, that the Browns attempted to trade for 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, before opting for Pettine.
Pettine said today, the report “has no bearing on my job moving forward.” His goal is to “quiet the noise” surrounding reports that keep popping up about the Browns.
Pettine, a former high school coach, has skyrocketed through the coaching ranks in the NFL to earn a shot a head coaching gig.
“I’m the proverbial guy from the mail room. I don’t have the pedigree like some other coaches have, that were former players or big college name coaches… I feel that I worked my way up and had a lot to overcome, and I think it helped motivate me,” said Pettine.
