INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WIVB) – Bills general manager Doug Whaley weighed in on UB linebacker Khalil Mack this week at the NFL Combine, and he agrees with a lot of the pre-draft buzz.
“Explosive playmaker on the defensive side of the ball,” said Whaley. “One of the things that makes him able to be thought of in the top ten, maybe top five, is his ability to get to the quarterback, and that’s a premium in our league.”
Whaley said he doesn’t view Mack any differently, just because he played in the MAC instead of one of the power conferences.
“You look at their skill set and how they do what they do. One thing that helped Khalil Mack is, he shined brightest against Ohio State. So it wasn’t too big for him when he took a step up in competition,” said Whaley.
The Bills hold the 9th pick in this year’s draft, and linebacker could be a need. With the growing buzz, though, Mack could be off the board before the Bills are on the clock.
