ORANGEVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Deputies say after a drunk driver crashed his car into a ditch, he went to his Jeep to try to pull the car out and fell asleep behind the wheel.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office was called to Almeter Road near Weber Road in the Town of Orangeville on Sunday on reports of a vehicle in the ditch that was partially blocking the driving lane. Deputies say once there, they were unable to find the driver, but spotted a Jeep running in a driveway at a nearby home.

Officers went to speak to the man inside, who they say was passed out and slumped behind the wheel. After waking the man up, identified as 46-year-old Ivan Villamil, deputies say he told them that he was going to take the Jeep to pull the vehicle he had crashed out of the ditch.

But deputies say Villamil was drunk and failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested for DWI, driving with a BAC higher than .08 percent, moving from a lane unsafely and driving an uninspected motor vehicle.

He’s due back in court at a later date. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
