Alleged drunk driver tells police she swerved to avoid rabbit

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Police say a drunk driver crashed her car after swerving to avoid hitting a rabbit early Saturday morning.

A homeowner on Sheldon Road called Orchard Park Police after witnessing the accident around 6:30 a.m. and seeing the female driver start walking down the road towards Abbott. Officers arrived and stopped the woman, identified as 42-year-old Dawn Ferrari, who told police she crashed after swerving to avoid hitting a rabbit.

Police say Ferrari was drunk. A breath test revealed her BAC to be .22 percent.

She was arrested and charged with DWI and aggravated DWI.
