AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB)- Doctors ditched the white coats for aprons, to help some of the youngest patients in western New York. Physicians from several area hospitals served up drinks Sunday at the Buffalo Brew Pub for the 20th annual “Dr. Andy’s Day for Kids.”

The tradition was started by two people including the late Dr. Andrew Gage.

Buffalo Brew Pub General Manager Keith Morgan said, “Dr. Andy was a friend of mine, and he wanted to tend bar, and we always said ‘your wife will never let you tend bar,’ and he said ‘If I do it for the babies, she’ll let me.’ Because he had six kids himself. And, so that’s how it all started, and when he passed away six years ago, I decided I had to carry it on in his name.”

“Dr. Andy’s Day” has raised more than $300,000 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Buffalo Sisters Hospital.
