Police: man claims to be brother during traffic stop

NIAGARA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Troopers say a man used his brother’s name to avoid being charged for driving on a suspended license during a traffic stop in the Town of Niagara.

On Friday, State Police pulled over 38-year-old Joseph Conte for a traffic light infraction. Troopers say the Niagara Falls man has a suspended license and tried to claim he was his brother to avoid getting in trouble.

While interviewing Conte, authorities say they found drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. He was taken into custody and positively identified.

Conte is charged with second degree criminal impersonation, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic needle.

He is due back in court at a later date.
