MISSION VALLEY, CA (WIVB) – A Marine who was also a firefighter in Western New York died in a 4-car crash Saturday outside San Diego.

California Highway Patrol and CBS affiliate KFMB say a black car crashed into an embankment, killing active Marine Ricky Jones, who was 20 years old.

The crash happened where Interstate 8 meets California State Route 163 in Mission Valley. Three people from the crash were taken to hospitals.

Bruce Mack, chief of the Frontier Fire Company based in Wheatfield, says that Jones was a volunteer with Frontier.

“Ricky’s been a member of the department for quite a few years, and, I’ve known the family for a long time.  His dad’s been a member of our department and Ricky obviously joined following in his dad’s footsteps,” Mack told News 4 on Sunday night.

Jones was stationed in Southern California. His family has not yet announced funeral arrangements.
