40 lose their jobs at Ingram Micro in Amherst

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Ingram Micro laid off 40 people from their Amherst facility on Wednesday in what the company calls a part of their “global operational effectiveness initiative.”

A spokesman says those whose positions were eliminated will receive a severance package and can take advantage of employee assistance support and outplacement services for the remainder of the week.

Ingram Micro says they have nearly 40 offices and do business in 170 countries and the positions were eliminated as they streamline their organization structure.

Just last July, the company was granted permission to expand the parking lot at their facility on Wehrle Drive as they looked to add 250 jobs. Ingram Micro was also given almost a million dollars in tax breaks on the condition that they follow through with the expansion and adding 250 jobs.
