Wegman Family Charitable Foundation Grant

The District has high praise for the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection through the Wegman Family Charitable Foundation.   The program at South Park High School, with 20 of 21 involved seniors graduating last year, is proof that career engagement lends itself to higher graduation rates, a fact we know to be true through our 25 various Career and Technical Education programs within the district.  “Real World” education is an important part of the “World-Class Education” we offer all of our students.

I am happy for the opportunity Wegmans’ generous challenge grant affords our students to take their place among skilled laborers and business owners as an important part of this region’s fabric and an economic engine for the community.

In terms of being able to take advantage of the challenge grant in full, it will be necessary for us to look for ways as we form next year’s budget.  We are currently facing a near $50 million deficit, and we as a district, along with and our schools through their School Based Management Teams, will consider every option as it relates to the needs of their students.
