Pair of senior citizens accused of stealing copper cable

ALEXANDER, N.Y. (WIVB) – A pair of senior citizens is accused of digging up and then selling copper cable valued at more than $100,000.

Police say Wayne Pierce and Eugene Reding, both 72 and from Attica, have been illegally removing copper cable since 2011. Authorities began their investigation after being approached by AT&T officials.

Investigators discovered the pair has approached landowners in Alexander, Darien and Bethany and asked to dig up cable on their properties. After digging it up, they would then sell it, costing AT&T more than $100,000.
