Woman accused of assaulting 19-month-old girl

CARROLLTON, N.Y. (WIVB) – Medical staff at Women and Children’s Hospital have determined a 19-month-old girl suffered head trauma that was most likely caused by reckless shaking.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has charged 22-year-old Jessica Courteau, of Bradford, Pennsylvania with first degree assault, first degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigators say at 11 a.m. on Thursday, and ambulance was called to a home in Carrollton where a 19-month-old girl was having difficulty breathing. Bradford Regional Medical Center contacted law enforcement about the baby’s unexplained head trauma.
