Batavia hospital partnering with Rochester General

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Rochester General Health System is forming a partnership with United Memorial Medical Center that will make the Genesee County hospital an affiliate of Rochester General.

Officials revealed the joint venture on Thursday, saying it will allow them to expand services at hospital in Batavia. Over time, they say residents will be able to stay closer to home to get medical care.

United Memorial will maintain its name and a local board after the affiliation is formalized.

United Memorial CEO Mark Schoell said, “The real reason for choosing Rochester General Health System, first of all, we are very culturally aligned with Rochester General Health System. We have the same sense of community and the same sense of being a community asset.”

The two organizations have worked together for the last five years in several areas, including cardiology, pathology, and surgery. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
