Driver accused of DWI in crash that injured his passenger

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) – An Orleans County man is facing charges after an alleged drunk driving crash that critically injured his passenger.

Around 1 a.m. on Thursday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office was called to Lincoln Avenue in the Town of Lockport for a one-vehicle accident. Deputies discovered a small pickup truck that had gone off the road and hit a tree, pinning the passenger, 21-year-old Christopher Blake, inside.

Blake was flown to ECMC by Mercy Flight where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Levi Dieterle of Medina, was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. He is charged with DWI as well as several vehicle and traffic law charges, and deputies say he could face additional charges.

The accident remains under investigation.
