Alleged drunk driver involved in serious crash

ROYALTON, N.Y. (WIVB) – A one-car crash overnight in Lockport sent two people to the hospital. The driver is facing drunk driving charges.

Rescuers tell News 4 a car was heading eastbound on the Lincoln Avenue Extension around 1 a.m. when the driver lost control, causing his vehicle to roll over and slam into a tree.  A Niagara County sheriff’s deputy witnessed the crash and called for help.

Terry’s Corners Fire Company Chief Christopher McClune-Case said, “We called for Mercy Flight and landed them at South Lockport Hall and we had a Mercy Flight paramedic brought to the scene to assist.”

The driver, 21-year-old Levi K. Dieterle, of Medina, was arrested for DWI and several vehicle and traffic charges.

The male passenger was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.
