Buffalo Police carry powerful drug

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) Buffalo Police are now carrying the powerful drug Narcan, a prescription drug used to reverse the the effects of a heroin overdose. Narcan can also reverse the effects of overdoses of other opiates as well.

Buffalo Police are trained now on how to administer Narcan which is considered to be a potential life-saver antidote for Heroin and other narcotic overdoses. Police say the Queen City is no stranger to what is described as a nationwide epidemic of heroin overdoses.

Buffalo and Erie County report 29 heroin overdose deaths in 2013. Mayor Byron Brown formerly announced the Narcan program in his recent State of the City address.
