In the wake of the resignation of Lockport Mayor Michael Tucker, newly appointed mayor Anne McCaffrey has ordered the destruction of city credit cards and the closing of accounts
The Lockport Union Sun & Journal reports that she turned in the mayor’s credit card to City Treasurer Michael White.
In place of a credit card, the city will use purchasing cards, City Attorney John Ottaviano said.
A purchase card is linked to an account established through a bank and each card will be coded for a specific department. Department heads will have to sign out their card and usage will be allowed up to $1,500.
Controversy surrounds Lockport employee’s use of credit cards after the treasurer’s office discovered that the Youth and Recreation Direcor charged more than $9,000 for a golf tournament on the card issued to Mayor Michael Tucker.
Tucker resigned last Friday but said his resignation had nothing to do with the credit card controversy.
Recreation Director Melissa Junke’s charges on the card were for a tournament organized by a restaurant owned by Junke’s brother.
