Silver chalice taken from Batavia church

BATAVIA, NY (WIVB) – Batavia police report that a silver chalice and other items are reported missing from St. James Episcopal Church.

The chalice, which is an important part of the church’s services, was noticed missing last weekend and since them other items appear to have been stolen as well.

Among the other items taken were a double chalice, an implement used to sprinkle holy water, an aspersorium (situla), a bucket used to hold holy water and a metal container suspended from chains in which incense is burned during worship.

There were no signs of a break in at the church.
