19th annual Mardi Gras parade marches in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Western New Yorkers celebrated Fat Tuesday by holding a Mardi Gras parade down Allen Street.

The 19th annual parade presented by Artvoice kicked off at 5 p.m. and marched down Allen to Main Street then over to Chippewa before heading back to Allen.

Melissa Campbell has been taking part in the festivities for the past six years and organized this year’s parade.

“I love parades. I love it when people come out and have a good time and I like it when people are creative and have a lot of fun,” she said.

After the parade, Campbell says the bars open their doors for Mardi Gras. Revelers can buy a bracelet for $5 that gives them access to a number of bars. The money raised goes to Give for Greatness, which helps local artists and small businesses to make projects.

Some 20 floats took part in this year’s parade.
