D.C. snow doesn’t stop WNYer’s promotion

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WIVB) – A Buffalo couple wasn’t going to let the snow stop them from seeing their son get promoted. Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Martin became Colonel Joseph Martin Monday, but it wasn’t easy.

The Pentagon was closed Monday because of the snow, so a few government employees shoveled out a spot at the Jefferson Memorial, and a top-ranking official drove from the Pentagon to officiate.

Colonel’s father James Martin said, “It’s a little snow, it’s a little cold, but it’s not like Buffalo.”

Colonel’s mother Carol Martin said, “It wasn’t going to stop us. You know we’re from Buffalo. We’ve done a lot worse than this. He’s a can-do guy. We’re so proud of him.”

Colonel Martin’s ceremony was delayed once before because of the sequestration.
