School buses, semis cannot use Rt. 20 bridge in Alexander

ALEXANDER, N.Y. (WIVB) – The NYS Department of Transportation has restricted the Rt. 20 bridge over Tonawanda Creek in the Town of Alexander to vehicles weighing 14 tons or less.

Officials say a recent inspection and engineering analysis determined the bridge is not safe for heavier vehicles. That means tractor trailer, school buses and coach buses will not be able to cross the bridge.

State crews will make temporary repairs to the bridge over the next several weeks to raise the weight limit.

The bridge is expected to be permanently replaced in 2015.
