Bishop to distribute ashes at St. Joseph Cathedral

  

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent in the western Christian calendar.

Bishop of Buffalo Richard Malone will distribute ashes just after noon mass Wednesday at the Saint Joseph Cathedral.

During Lent, Catholics are supposed to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays, including Good Friday.

Catholics are also supposed to fast on Ash Wednesday and limit themselves to just one meal.
