HARMONY, N.Y. (WIVB) – A school bus driver is accused of failing to maintain lane after a crash on Route 474 near Panama, early Tuesday morning. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says Betty J. Bayle was driving a bus that went off the roadway for no reason.

The school bus traveled 500 feet through a ditch, hit a driveway culvert and went airborne, according to the sheriff’s office. The bus landed nose down in an embankment, causing the hood to be torn off.

Eight Clymer Central School students were on the bus, being taken to Ashville BOCES. Four of the eight students were taken to WCA Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The driver was not injured.

Bayle will answer the charge in Town of Harmony Court.
