Tonawanda Coke gets violations for small explosion

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Tonawanda Coke plant is facing more violations.

The state DEC has slapped the facility with two violations after a recent small explosion. Officials say Tonawanda Coke waited too long before reporting the blast and did not properly maintain equipment.

Two employees needed medical treatment.

Tonawanda Coke executives are currently awaiting sentencing for violating the Clean Air Act in a separate case.
