Wounded warriors enjoy day on the slopes

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – Wounded warriors enjoyed time on the slopes of Holiday Valley on Wednesday.

Troops who served in the Navy, Army and Marines received instruction on skiing at the Ellicottville resort. The program, which is in its 26th year, helps veteran and other people with disabilities, including MS, cerebral palsy and autism.

Jake Lounsbury of the Adaptive Ski Program said, “This day is a great day because we got a lot of these Navy guys out here, and they’re participating with us, and to help us build our program. It’s therapy for those who are disabled, and it also gives them a chance to get out in the world and do other than what, just roll around in their chairs and whatever. Gives them a little bit of extra freedom.”

Funding for the ski program comes from the Penguin Paddle, which was held last month at Holiday Valley.
