Fire caused $180,000 to Tonawanda auto shop

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Fire investigators say a blaze at Swiderski Motorcar on Fletcher Street in the City of Tonawanda caused $180,000 in damage.

Flames broke out Tuesday in a car parked near the front of the building, which then spread to the structure. Two companies were called for mutual aid as firefighters struggled with frozen hydrants.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities say the blaze was started either by faulty wiring or the improper use of electrical equipment.

Several cars inside the building burned in the fire. Employees were working at the time the flames broke out, but everyone escaped safely. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
