WARSAW, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Gainesville man is accused of being under the influence of cannabis while driving on State Route 19, in the Town of Warsaw. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Robert A. Abbott was stopped on Monday around 11 p.m.

The sheriff’s office says they were interviewing Abbott when they detected the smell of marijuana from inside the car and spotted a marijuana pipe on the driver’s side floor.

Officials say Abbott was arrested for suspicion of driving while ability impaired by drugs after a field sobriety test. A drug recognition expert then determined he was under the influence of cannabis and was unable to safely operate a vehicle.

Abott was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and driving while ability impaired by a drug. Abbott will answer the charges in Town of Warsaw Court in April. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
