Students give back to flood ravaged neighborhood

WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Students at Westchester Elementary School in West Seneca took a trip out in the sunshine to deliver some warmth to neighbors in the flood weary Lexington Green neighborhood on Friday.

These students know first hand the effects of two recent floods on this neighborhood because some are from there or have friends who live there. Students and faculty joined forces to create 70 boxes of love and delivered them to the homeowners.

These boxes contained some very practical items like hand towels, and gift cards, then some personal items like frames with the children’s artwork, and of course a lot of love.

Fifth grader Hannah Traub said, “I think it’s wonderful because one of my friends were affected too I wanted to help her family too. I was excited to help everyone in this community and and my friend too.”

The donations are part of a school-wide service learning project made possible with help from community donations.
