BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The race for the 26th Congressional District is heating up. Republican Kathy Weppner announced her candidacy Friday morning. The former talk show host will challenge Democratic incumbent Brian Higgins for the seat.
Weppner has a professional background in television and radio broadcasting. She and her husband raised their family in Amherst, and three of their five children have served in the Armed Forces.
“For those of you who have listened to me for years on the radio, you know how much I love my God, I love country, and I love Western New York. And that is why I’m running,” she said. “Today I’m offering up myself for the slaughter that we usually witness during political campaigns in hopes that we can, for the common good, change the debate.”
Weppner made her announcement on the front steps of the Amherst Town Hall.
Democrat Emin Egriu also plans to challenge Higgins.
