Driver dies after high-speed chase in N. Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – New York State Police had to take evasive action to avoid being struck by a vehicle speeding with no headlights Sunday morning.

The suspect vehicle had failed to stop at the flashing red light at 74th Street and Niagara Falls Boulevard.  The vehicle sped up at the intersection and the officers began to pursue.

After traveling approximately one mile, the vehicle rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard and 56th Street.

The driver was identified as Lewis Worrells, 30, from Niagara Falls.  He was taken to ECMC where he died shortly after.  The driver of the vehicle that was hit was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital, refused treatment and was released.

The investigation is continuing by the New York State Police.
