Police say man slept instead of watching toddler

Jamestown, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Jamestown man is charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say he slept while a toddler, 2, played in traffic.

Police say neighbors spotted the child running in and out of traffic Sunday afternoon, and responded to McDaniel Avenue.

Officers report finding the child inadequately dressed, and improperly supervised.  They also say Andrew Bennett, 24, was sleeping, and they arrested him.

The child was safe and turned over to the mother.  Bennett is being held Sunday night in Jamestown City Jail.
