Activist, developer to run against Higgins

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Congressman Brian Higgins is facing more competition for his seat in the 26th Congressional District.

Local activist and developer Eddie Egriu will announce his candidacy Monday, at Pullman Place in Buffalo. He’ll take on Higgins in the Democratic Primary.

“Together we can chart a new course. We can demand better leadership. We can build a better government. We can invest in our infrastructure. We can reform our laws and balance our budget. We can end our wars and fix our schools. We can rebuild our neighborhoods and transform our city from the bottom up,” Egriu said.

Republican Kathy Weppner entered the race for the 26th last week.

Weppner has a professional background in television and radio broadcasting. She and her husband raised their family in Amherst, and three of their five children have served in the Armed Forces. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
