BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Women in Western New York have some new help to get to potentially life saving medical appointments.
The Basil family donated a Ford Club Wagon to the Erie County Medical Center on Monday. It will be use to transfer patients of the hospital’s mobile mammography coach to follow-up appointments at the hospital.
Hospital officials say the new vehicle will ensure patients can get continued treatment.
ECMC CEO Jody Lomeo said, “This is really for the under-served. We say sometimes the never served. We’ve been fortunate in this community with the mobile mammography bus that over the last two years, nearly 3,000 women were screened. Most of those women would otherwise not have been screened. So access is always an issue.”
Hospital leaders say the new vehicle is an important piece to continue screening Western New Yorkers for cancer.
