NEW ORLEANS (WIVB) – Jairus Byrd has officially migrated south, joining the New Orleans Saints tonight on a six-year contract.
ESPN reports the deal is worth $56 million, with $28 million of that guaranteed.
Byrd, a three-time Pro Bowl safety with the Bills, had an offer from Buffalo before free agency opened, but chose to sign elsewhere.
The move ends a nearly two-year long saga between Byrd and the Bills, which included the team placing the franchise tag on him in 2013, resulting in Byrd skipping all of training camp. He battled a foot injury early in the season, but bounced back to earn his third Pro Bowl appearance.
The Bills chose not to place the franchise tag on Byrd this year, allowing him to enter free agency.
