Source: person lost fingers in explosion at Buffalo home


BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The ATF, FBI, Erie County Sheriff’s Office and Buffalo Police were called to 206 Condon Avenue around 4:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon after a small explosion inside.

Police say a 69-year-old man suffered traumatic injuries to the hand. One law enforcement source said the victim lost all of his fingers on one hand and was badly bleeding. He was taken to ECMC.

While sweeping the home, police say investigators found a military-style smoke grenade. Neighbors tell News 4 the man was a Vietnam veteran. Police say the grenade was something you’d see on the front lines.

One neighbor said the victim liked to drink and party. Police say it’s unclear if alcohol was involved in this case.

According to police, the victim was the only person inside the home during the explosion.
