Buffalo Police coax woman out of apartment

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Buffalo Police SWAT team was on Ashland Avenue at Summer, just off Elmwood Avenue, for hours Thursday night after a distraught woman holed up inside an apartment with a gun.

The standoff began sometime around 7 p.m. on Thursday and it took police around four hours to get the woman to agree to leave peacefully.

Duane Snyder had just returned from work to find flashing lights blocking Summer Street between Elmwood and Richmond.

“I stopped to talk to police officers. He said there’s a woman with a gun in the apartment building. “Fully loaded,” as he put it, and just to hold out,” said he said.

SWAT members were staked out around the apartment building as negotiators talked to the woman. After the standoff came to a peaceful conclusion, the woman was loaded onto a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital.
