Donald Trump announces he will not run for NYS Governor

ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) – For months, billionaire businessman Donald Trump has been flirting with the idea of running for NYS Governor on the Republican line. But Friday, he announced he will not be running after all.

In a message on Twitter, Trump cited his reason for not running, saying the Republican party was not able to unify. He said, “The top leadership of the New York State Republican Party is totally dysfunctional. They haven’t won a major election in many years.”

Last week, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced his bid for NYS Governor, which would muddy the waters if Trump had decided to run. The billionaire had previously stated that he would not run if he had to face primary.

Trump said that though he will not be running for NYS Governor, a race he says “I would have won,” he says he has much bigger plans in mind. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
