EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Hockey players laced up the skates and competed for 24-straight hours to raise money for their rink on Friday and Saturday.
The 24-hour hockey-thon was trying to get enough money to build a new two-story lodge at The Healthy Zone Rink on Riley Street in East Aurora.
The puck dropped at 9 p.m. Friday and competition continued until 9 p.m. Saturday. About 30 players took part in the fundraiser. Some of the players skated the entire time while others alternated playing for one hour and resting for one hour.
Each player had to pledge to raise $1,000. If the rink raises enough money, the new lodge could be ready by fall.
