Clarence Center fire leaves one dead


CLARENCE CENTER, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Amherst Fire Department confirms to News 4 that one person died in a fire Sunday night on Goodrich Road.

Firefighters found two residents unconscious when they first responded to the scene.  Denise Hackrott, 41, was transported to the Erie County Medical Center, where she is currently listed in critical condition.  Charles Deppa, 45, was pronounced dead on the scene and taken to the Erie County Medical Investigator’s Office to identify the cause of death.

Investigators have ruled the fire accidental.  It started in the kitchen, a result of an unattended stove.
