Boil water alert continues for parts of Genesee

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Some homes in the Towns of Batavia and Oakfield are still under an alert to boil their water Monday.  Water samples have detected that wells in that area may be contaminated with manure.

Officials from the health department are still collecting samples in the area to be examined.  A concerned resident contacted the health department last week to report a problem with their well.  It was determined that a farmer was spreading manure when it was not permitted.

Chlorine treatments can treat the well but residents should not use the well again until the health department inspects it.

Approximately 30 homes are affected by the advisory. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
