Burglary suspects caught while trying to enter car wash

OLEAN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Hiding in a car wash to evade the police might work in the movies, but if three burglary suspects were trying to turn the silver screen into real life, it didn’t work out so well.

Deputies were called to a burglary-in-progress Friday night around 10:15 p.m. at a home on Geiger Hollow Road in the Town of Allegany. By the time they arrived, the suspects had fled. But Olean Police spotted their vehicle as the suspects tried to enter a car wash on West State Street.

Police took Brett Barth, 20, of Olean; Justin Schaeper, 22, of Allegany; and Shawn Pavia, 23, of Olean into custody. All three are charged with third degree burglary and petit larceny.

The suspects were taken to Cattaraugus County Jail on $500 bail, each.
