Ohio State leans on battle-tested Craft

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – While most of the NCAA Tournament teams lack much postseason experience, that’s certainly not the case for a few members of Ohio State’s roster.

Seniors Aaron Craft and Lenzelle Smith, Jr. have experienced more than many teams combined, in their careers as Buckeyes.

“I’ve always said this. I can’t create a drill in practice to give guys experience,” said Ohio State Head Coach Thad Matta. “They’ve been to the Sweet 16, they’ve been to the Final Four… They understand the preparation. They understand the importance of being ready to go. You know, when you have those type of guys, it does make a big difference.”

For someone like Craft, he can take that experience and make sure all his teammates understand what he’s learned.

“The margin of defeat for us in the NCAA Tournament has been very, very little, and it comes down to one or two possessions a game,” said Craft. “Understanding that that one or two possessions doesn’t necessarily mean the last two in the game. It could be the first two in the game.”

The Buckeyes take on Dayton Thursday at 12:15pm, from Buffalo’s First Niagara Center.
