Sabres open road trip with 3-1 loss

CALGARY (WIVB) – The Buffalo Sabres opened a five game road trip with a 3-1 loss at Calgary Tuesday night.

22-year old Nathan Lieuwen made his first career NHL start at goaltender, stopping 23 of the 26 shots he faced.

Buffalo got on the board first when Drew Stafford stole the puck behind the net and immediately scored.

The Flames answered late in the second period on a Joe Colborne goal. Mike Cammalleri and Paul Byron added goals in the third for the victory.
