Driver accused of heroin, needles

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) – New York State Police say they stopped a vehicle that was traveling erratically on I-90 near the Town of Hamburg, Sunday. Police say the driver, 30-year-old Steven T. Lewinski, of Hamburg, is now facing drug charges.

Police report finding three hypodermic needles containing heroin residue and more than a gram of heroin inside the car. Lewinski said he was on medication, but said he didn’t have a prescription for hypodermic needles.

Lewinski was arrested and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument, both misdemeanors.

He will answer charges later this month. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
