Ken Ton leaders to explain possible scenarios

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Parents in the Ken Ton School District will get to hear more Thursday about four cost cutting measures administrators are considering. No matter what happens, we know some schools will close.

District leaders say one of the four consolidation scenarios is needed in order to save the district money and to create a more viable future for Ken Ton Schools. This afternoon parents will get the chance to hear school leaders explain each of the plans.

Scenario G: Would close Hamilton Elementary School.

Scenario I: Calls for closing both Hamilton and Roosevelt.

Scenario K: Would close Roosevelt and Edison Elementaries, and reconfigure both Kenmore East and West high schools.

Scenario J: Is projected to save the most money, it would do everything “K” does, plus reconfigure Hoover and Franklin Middle Schools.

Ken Ton Schools Superintendent Mark Mondanaro said, “We did as much or more reorganizing actually, than we did closing. Yes, there are some closures that are suggested. We are very undercapacitated.”

However, regardless of which scenario is chosen, some things are certain. The Philip Sheridan and Jefferson Elementary School buildings will be sold. Kenmore Middle School will close.
