LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WIVB) – National Grid is giving a financial boost to a pipe manufacturing plant in Lackawanna.

The utility presented a $250,000 grant to Welded Tube on Thursday, which has built a 11,000-square foot pipe plant on the former Bethlehem Steel property. The grant is part of National Grid ‘s capital investment incentive program.

Officials say the projects they’re seeing through the grants are exciting for Western New York.

National Grid Regional Executive Dennis Elsenbeck said, “Really what we’re starting to see, is really it’s an advanced manufacturing city. We’re reinventing the way steel, the way metal looks in Western New York. And it’s an attractive site for these type of industries, this type of manufacturing.”

Welded Tube is eligible for an additional $250,000 when they launch phase two of the project.
