Police say man nearly ran woman off I-190

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – State Police say a man tried to run a woman who has an order of protection against him off I-190 last Friday.

The woman got away from the suspect, 46-year-old Carl Newman, Jr., and called troopers. While they spoke to her, police say Newman called the woman repeatedly, even speaking to a trooper on her cell phone, through refusing to give his location.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Newman, and on Thursday he turned himself into State Police in Buffalo. He is facing charges of first degree reckless endangerment, first degree criminal contempt for violating the order of protection, and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

He was taken to the city jail while awaiting arraignment.
