Potholes may lead to property tax hike in Olean

OLEAN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Pothole problems could mean residents in the City of Olean will see a property tax hike.

Officials are weighing their options as they assess the damage Mother Nature did this year. Mayor Bill Aiello is looking at possibly doubling the amount they had budgeted for repairs.

“Unfortunately our budget is going to fall short. We only had $150,000 in our road budget to repair potholes. So I’ve already approached the council that we may need more money to do that,” he said.

The mayor says once this Spring thaw is complete, they’ll look at the damage and come up with an exact number on how much they may need to raise taxes.
