BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Since being re-diagnosed with cancer, the outpouring of support for Jim Kelly and his family has been overwhelming.
On Friday, as the Hall of Fame quarterback continues his battle with cancer in a Manhattan hospital, a second daughter flew in to be by his bedside. Jim’s wife Jill has been updating the public regularly on his visitors and activities through photos and videos on social media.
Kelly is being treated at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City under the care of Dr. Peter Costantino, a renowned expert in complex surgical procedures of the head and neck, including tumor removal. He says this cancer is treatable and potentially curable.
Western New Yorkers rallied once again Friday night to help raise money and awareness for a cause near and dear to the hearts of this family.
The Kellys would normally have been at a gala fundraiser for Hunter’s Hope in Buffalo, sponsored for 10 years by Rosicki, Rosicki and Associates law firm.
Gala sponsor Cynthia Rosicki said, “But as a matter of fact he did call us this evening and thanked us for the support.”
Tom and Cynthia Rosicki have raised more than $320,000 over the past 10 years to help find a cure for leukodystrophies and Krabbe Disease that claimed the life of Jim and Jill’s son Hunter. The two families have formed a bond in their common mission.
“He wanted to thank us so much for continuing the, tradition which we are so proud and grateful to do, and we wish him all the best and we will go see him next week in Manhattan. He asked us to come and see him,” Rosicki said.
The Kellys are looking to the future from Jim’s hospital room as they face the challenging road ahead.
