Man tries to elude police by hiding under discarded mattress

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – Officers say a man fled after they ordered him to stop and tried to elude capture by hiding underneath a discarded mattress.

Jamestown Police responded to a call on W. 8th Street at Cherry Street around 1:30 p.m. on Monday and saw 25-year-old Matthew Goodlow of Jamestown running across the street.

Goodlow is wanted on a bench warrant in Jamestown City Court and officers ordered him to stop. But police say he kept running and then tried to hide underneath a discarded mattress, but his ruse failed.

He was taken into custody for the warrant and new charges of obstructing governmental administration and unlawful possession of marijuana. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
